Autism Speaks SE MichiganWalk
What a wonderful event! The day started off freezing cold and I, of course, dressed completely in denial of winter closely approaching. In hope of a positive turnout, we worked diligently setting up our Autism One Stop Shop booth. I was surprised to see the number of people participating in the walk and the crowds that swarmed our booth. We did great with sales especially our autism awareness hoodies (which we sold out of). The designer, “Brightly Twisted”, who has their merchandise in boutiques nationwide, including Nordstroms plus their new store located in Twelve Oaks mall, caught my attention with their beautiful tied dyed apparel and accessories. I contacted them and asked if they would be interested in creating ”Passion for the Piece” pashmina scarves with the autism colors (red, blue, yellow and turquoise). They said they would love to and were extremely generous to donate 11 scarves with 100% of the proceeds going to my mission to supply autism awareness billboards nationwide. I am happy to tell you that we sold 8 of the scarves on Sunday and with our success in sales I will be able to get our first Michigan billboard in the works. Thank you ”Brightly Twisted”!
Our daugther, Jackie (with autism) showed up to the walk (this being her 2nd year) and did great! She checked everything out, played, had snacks, and even cooperated with pictures. Sunday, was truly a day that the angels gathered at the walk with us. It wasn’t that long ago that taking Jackie to an event like this would have been extremly overloading and difficult for her. This year, she really seemed to enjoy it! The donations for this year’s walk were incredible too! These are the days I thank God for. It’s the little things like peace and happiness in our days that I am sooo grateful for. Also, most importantly, friends and family like you!
